From New York Times Bestselling Author, J.C. Reed, and Jackie Steele comes a new standalone novel.

I have everything I want.
Success. Wealth. Women…and make that plenty of those. As a filthy-rich CEO, I would say I’m pretty much close to perfection.

Except for that one weakness: I’m cocky as hell, and an irresistible magnet for women.

So when one tiny mistake lands me in hot waters with the investors, I have one hell of a choice to make:
Restore my reputation…
Or risk losing my company.

I’m a man of my word and failure is not an option. Not now. Not ever.

I fully intend to uphold my responsibilities.

Sharing an apartment should be easy, right?

And it’s only for six weeks.
That’s what I thought before I found out that my new roommate is female.
And wow.
Vicky Sullivan is unlike any woman I’ve ever met.
She’s hot as sin, and crazy.
Definitely not my kind of crazy, but too hot to pass up.
There’s something about her that makes me rage with want.
I don’t like her, but obviously my dick does. And what he wants, he gets.

Six weeks…
Living together shouldn’t be too hard…
Until my best friend challenges me to a bet…
I make it my mission to make her mine.

There’s only one problem.
I have to break…Every. Single. Rule.
And did I mention she’s completely off-limits?

It’s too late to say no.

Author’s note – Counting On You is a full-length, standalone novel with no cliffhanger.

EXCERPT

A tear escaped down her cheek. She dashed it away, and the anger replaced her sorrow. “I don’t want your money, Michael.”

Hands fisted at his side, he finally met her stare. “What is it then?” She approached him and touched his arm.

He flinched, but she refused to back away.

“I want to know why? I need to know if you ever loved me. I demand to know if everything you told me was a lie.” There, she’d said it. She dropped her hand away.

He was pale and thin. Little of his robust figure shone through the robe. “I never lied to you.”

“Then why?”

He turned away again. “I would have thought your parents explained that to you already.” She kicked at the rug, unsure of how to continue.

“Didn’t your mother explain?” Anger rolled through his words like an army.

In all the time they’d courted, she had never seen any signs of temper from Michael. He’d always been kind and loving. Through her fear, her own anger pushed her on. She stood toe-to- toe with a clearly dangerous man. “I was told that our engagement was dissolved because you cannot father a child. I will admit it took my mother quite a long time to get around to explaining that much, and I do not actually think she knew any more. What I want to know is what that has to do with you crying off?”

Then he turned. “I did not cry off. You did.”  “I did no such thing.” She stomped her foot. “Then your father did.” His tone had gone flat.

“He had no right. If you did not end our engagement, then why were we not married today?” She tried to sound sophisticated, but tears pushed to the surface. His attitude was so changed. She didn’t know him. Maybe she never had.

“Your mother explained that.” He lumbered across the room and poured himself a rather large brandy. The smooth glide that she always admired was gone from his step.

“So if we had married, then we found that I was barren, you would have tossed me over?” She was rather proud of how rational she sounded in spite of her sorrow and raging temper.

“Don’t be ridiculous.” He swallowed half the glass brandy. His shoulders slumped. “Then why would you think that I would care?”

“You don’t understand.” The second half went down in one swallow.

“Clearly. Perhaps you can explain it to me.”

Excerpt
CHAPTER ONE
48°37’17”N, 20°12’20”W
Aboard the Boadicea
One Day Southwest of Falmouth
Captain Lindsay Fisher jolted awake to thundering pain
centered over a golfball-sized knot on the right side of her forehead. Hot,
sticky blood trickled from a gash on her scalp.

The cabin lights were out, but in the gloom she could hear
the roar of seawater cascading along the floor of her starboard aft cabin.
She’d fallen into her bunk a few hours before encased in foul weather gear —
and a life jacket.

The ship was in a severe list. Dazed and still barefooted,
she used handholds to make her way to the main saloon. The dim glow from the
overhead deck bevels illuminated water pouring through the galley from the
forward cabin. Shit. The custom glass top over the owner’s cabin had shattered.

The sixty-four-foot Hallberg-Rassy must have done a full
roll. Lindsay had been asleep on the floor of her cabin and had probably
smacked her head sometime during the spin.

They were sinking. Fast. And her first mate, her uncle Tommy, had been on watch at the helm.

She ignored the stuttering of her heart and snatched the
ditch bag carabineer, clipped to the galley counter rail. She nearly collided
with her second crewman in a race to the top deck.

“Jim, deploy the life raft. Now.” she shouted, shoving the
bag at him.

“Got it,” he yelled, and pounded up the companionway ahead
of her.

She hauled herself up, two steps at a time, and called out,
“Tommy.” She didn’t wait for an answer but hit the top deck running.

The wreckage above sickened her. Anything not tied down was
gone. The rigging still stood, but the sails were soaked, twisted and ripped.
The top quarter of the mast had broken off.

A late, fierce storm, at least Force 11, was kicking up
monster size waves, and sixty-knot winds whipped the surface water into a
roiling mist. Airborne spray and foam narrowed visibility to nearly zero.

The earlier weather faxes she’d checked had shown the storm
passing west of them. Mother Ocean must have changed her mind.

Tommy. I have to get to him.

Lindsay exhaled hard at the sight of the lifeboat valise
still lashed to the safety rail. Her third crewman Jim worked at the straps to
free the big rubber inflatable, the only thing between them and the frigid
North Atlantic waters.

When the huge raft was prepped, he would splash the lifeboat
into the savage waves battering the broken yacht. He’d already attached the
raft’s painter to the ship to keep it from blowing overboard. When the ship
sank, the emergency tether would break free.

The steep tilt of the deck meant she had only minutes to
call for help and find her first mate before the yacht plummeted to the bottom
of the sea.

She punched the DSC button on the waterproof radio strapped
on her chest to broadcast their GPS coordinates. Then she pushed transmit and
spoke calmly.

“Mayday, Mayday, Mayday. This is Captain Lindsay Fisher on
the Boadicea, Boadicea, Boadicea. We’re a day southwest of Falmouth at
48°37’17”N, 20°12’20”W, and sinking. The ship has rolled with three passengers
aboard. One crew member possibly overboard. We are deploying the lifeboat and
EPIRB beacon.”

She waited a minute and repeated the plea while crossing to
the wheel where Tommy should be.

They were still less than two hundred miles out of the
English Channel. If she didn’t get a response soon from the Brits, she hoped
another nearby ship listening to Channel 16 would relay her call for help.

When she reached the stern behind the wheel, the only sign
of Tommy was a taut portion of his six-foot safety tether. Lindsay squinted
through the spray peppering her face like needles. The strap wound down the
backside of the wallowing yacht and disappeared into the black waves.

There was still tension on the line. She heaved up on the
tether, but the weight on the other end wouldn’t budge. She didn’t dare divert
Jim from getting the life raft ready.

Lindsay heaved again on the strap, this time using her whole
body weight but lost her grip when her bare feet slipped on the wave-soaked
deck. No dice.

She stood for a moment, scanned the waves around the ship,
and then plunged into the cold seawater. The towering waves pounded her
senseless like a mass of ice mallets pelting her back. Breathe. Focus.

The roll had knocked out their running lights, and the water
below the surface was as black as an oil slick. She clutched her lifeline,
still clipped to the ship’s jack line, with one hand while groping along the hull
beneath the waves searching for Tommy. She swept a 180-degree arc before
realizing his tether was stuck on a piece of the swim ladder twisted during the
yacht’s violent revolution. Dammit.

The tension on the end of the line wasn’t Tommy.

She unclipped her safety line and left her life jacket on
the ladder to begin a frantic free swim along the keel beneath the hull. The
creaks and whines of the straining ship shrieked in her ears. Not much time
left.

Lindsay resurfaced, gasped in a few breaths, and dived again
to the bottom of the keel. Huge thrashing waves exacerbated the wallowing
motion of the ship, and the black water threatened to suck her into the
claustrophobic darkness.

Her hands and feet were numb, and she wanted nothing more
than to close her eyes and let the frigid water take her.

No. She wouldn’t give in to the cold, but she was out of
options. One more dive was all her body had left.

She was all in, no backup plan. In a flash, something
brushed against her hand. A fish? Not bloody likely this close to the surface
in a storm.

She made a wild grab and grasped a sleeve of her uncle’s
foul weather gear. His life vest must have hooked onto a protruding piece of a
sensor on the keel during the roll.

She pulled with her last surge of strength, and his body
broke free. Kicking them both to the surface, she hung on to his life vest and
gave silent thanks for her barefoot state. Sea boots would have filled and
pulled her down.

The doomed yacht’s loud groans and creaks filled the air
when she came up, gulping breaths. They were out of time.

But there, the big yellow raft bobbed in the water,
surrounded by the wake of the sinking ship.

Jim’s face in the low light was grim, the most beautiful
sight she’d ever seen. He’d found them with the battery-operated spotlight. The
EPIRB’s beacon flashed behind him as he thrashed through the waves. He grasped
Tommy by his jacket and pulled him aboard, then extended a hand to Lindsay.

Once inside the small canopied raft, she rolled her uncle to
his back and leaned over his chest, listening for breathing. The screaming
winds and rain pelting the raft’s rubber top made hearing next to impossible.

Her frozen fingers were useless. She couldn’t use them to
detect a pulse, so instead she looked for a rise in his chest. Nothing. She
started compressions and after only two or three, Tommy jerked to life and
slapped her hands away.

“You tryin’ to kill me or what?” He took the bucket Jim
shoved toward him, and in a matter of seconds, puked up seawater. “Son of a–.”

“He’s back,” Lindsay said, her voice ragged with relief and
exhaustion. Painful needles of feeling returned to her fingers and toes. She
collapsed onto the inflated rubber floor and stared at the peaked roof.

Her career was over.
CeCe Ahlstrom, massage therapist to the rich and famous, is done with men. Her last rich boyfriend tried to kill her on an ill-fated cruise through the Grenadines. Now she’s determined to get on with her life but can’t find the funds to get to her next spa gig in Portugal. Then along comes notorious womanizer Captain Rene Baudouin. He’s hell on the hearts of women, he can handle any storm at sea, yet he might have met his match in a leaky old boat. He needs a first mate crazy enough to help crew the wreck known as the Tourbillon across the Atlantic. Destiny draws CeCe and Rene together, but things are not what they seem. Rene struggles with a family secret that could destroy his future and CeCe will have to face a truth not even she knows yet. Out on the open sea, Rene and CeCe soon find themselves…UP TOO CLOSE.

Andrea K. Stein
Andrea K. Stein’s daddy was a trucker, her momma was an artist, and she’s a scribbler. The stories just spilled out—the pony escaped, the window magically shattered. Not her fault. Twenty years as a journalist couldn’t stifle the yarns. Yacht delivery up and down the Caribbean only increased the flow. Now those tales celebrate romance on the high seas. As a sailing captain and instructor since 1996, she’s logged nearly 30,000 miles to destinations around the world. She now lives in the Rocky Mountains and is the author of four historical sailing romances available on Amazon.com.

Hayley was asleep, her back rising and falling gently in the
morning light. Cell was awake on the other side of her, looking at her, the
calculation back on his face and I was nervous. It was like he was on the fence
and I was waiting for a final decision. Did he like it enough last night to
want to keep her, or was he of the opinion to throw her back, like some fish
he’d caught that wasn’t satisfying enough?
“She’s got a pussy with a GI-Joe Kung-Fu grip,” he muttered
and I tried not to laugh. She was laying on me, and laughing would wake her.
Shit! I lost the battle and she stirred.
“Morning,” Cell grated and Hayley inhaled sharply.
She cuddled into my side a little more and I felt her lips
curl into a smile against my skin. She kissed my chest and looked up looking
like the cat who’d gotten the cream and said, “Good morning.” I could tell that
Cell was pleased with Hayley and wanted to do more with her by what he said
next.
“Look at you shattering all those inhibitions.” He even
sounded complimentary.
I smiled to myself, the happiest I’d been for a while, and
hugged Hayley against me, pleased when Cell grinned and nipped her shoulder
before springing up into a sitting position. He scooted to the end of the bed
and stood up. Lean muscles stretched and showed off to spectacular effect,
leaving Hayley and me both staring with admiration. Cell had a great body, and
one that he didn’t have to particularly work for outside of our day job.
“You both want we should go again right now?” he asked and
Hayley blushed, but didn’t look away.
“I’m starving,” she said and Cell gave a crooked grin.
“Well, get dressed. Sunday breakfast is probably still going
on out there and we can spend the day together. Maybe go for a ride or
something.”
“My bike is back at Hayley’s,” I said.
“Shit, yeah, I saw her cage out there when I came in last
night.”
“That’s okay,” Hayley piped up. “I mean, we can go get it. I
can dress warmer…”
“Yeah?” Cell asked, making sure.
“Yeah.”
He nodded and smiled, “Alright then.”
We got dressed, and Hayley looked beautiful with her hair
tousled by sleep and sex. I handed her a comb after running it through my own
short hair and apologized that I didn’t have anything better. She smiled and
laughed slightly.
“Its fine,” she said and went to her down jacket, getting her
hairclip out of her pocket. She stood in front of the dresser mirror and combed
through her long hair patiently, before gathering it into a ponytail. I watched
her, fixated, the way her sweatshirt hung artfully off one shoulder, the way she
swept up her hair, the elegant line of her neck revealed…
We’d shared something last night. Something deep and personal
and I cherished it. I cherished her. I never wanted to let her go. I knew what
this was. I’d felt it once before and I looked at Cell, the only other person
I’d felt it for. He lifted one side of his mouth in a sardonic smile and shook
his head at me. He knew. He knew, too, but he also was letting me have this.
Gratitude swamped me and I felt the urge to go to him and kiss
him. I’d had that urge a time or two in the past when it’d come to him. Only
tried the one time, the first time, and had had my ass beat for the trouble.
Instead, I pulled the treasure that was Hayley into my arms. She looked up at
me and smiled, a light of happiness in her eyes.
I bent and kissed her, putting everything into it that I was
feeling at that moment, pleased that I completely stole her breath away.
I raised up so that I could see her face, and her eyes were
closed, her body relaxed, and her expression one of concentration. As if she
were committing the feel of my lips, this moment, to memory.
She was so the right girl…
“Hey, no way I can top that… I’ll get mine later.” Cell said,
holding up his hands when Hayley turned to him. She smiled, and picked up her
shoes, going to the bed to sit on its edge to put them on.
I looked at Cell and he gave me a still look back. He wasn’t
in the mood for contact that wasn’t on his terms today. I could respect that.
Hayley, I worried, wouldn’t understand it. So, we had to work together to
strike a balance, for now…
Cell pulled his shirt over his head and down over his belt
line and sat down to pull on his boots. I pulled on mine and we were just about
out of here. I held out Hayley’s coat for her and she shrugged into it. I
looped her scarf around her neck and pulled her in pecking her on the nose and
she laughed.
“Come on you two, I believe the lady mentioned she was
starving and I’m not far behind her.” Cell tossed me my jacket and cut, his
already on, and opened up my door, ushering us out into the hall with a wave of
his hand. Hayley paused before going through and reached out, laying a hand
along Cell’s face. He flinched slightly, but she didn’t take notice. I saw it
though, a slight movement, a tightening of the muscles around his eyes, his jaw
clenching slightly.
“Thank you,” she murmured and he smiled, all charm and turned
his face, pressing his mouth to the center of her palm and giving it a quick
peck.
“No problem,” he said and Hayley stepped past him the rest of
the way. I gave him a nod and he gave one back and we went to breakfast. He
even sucked it up and held her other hand as we walked from the barracks to the
back door of the club.

Rush had always been the brother that was the most up for adventure. Then Grinder died and he realized that it was time to slow down. Fast-forward by a year and more and his older brother Archer had found Mel. Hell, his own twin was with a woman of his own! Rush is starting to get restless again, which was just perfect. Cue a string of anonymous hook-ups and one night stands. It was enough to feed the restlessness for a while, then an adventure of sorts came a callin’ by way of the VP’s estranged aunt and the President’s sister-in-law.
Her daughter was in need of some kind of white knight, which Rush could care less about, but the white knight routine did come with a pretty big perk. It would mean that he got to go back to a job that had, once upon a time, felt like a calling.
Of course, nothing was ever easy where Rush was concerned, especially when he actually set eyes on the damsel in distress. One, she wasn’t some paper princess, and two, she definitely didn’t want him around. After all, one-night hook-ups were supposed to be just that… one and done.

Russian
mob boss Vladimir Ivanov has many enemies—one of them just kidnapped his wife.
A mafia war has erupted in London, and
Vladimir’s enemies know his one weakness is his deep passion for his new bride,
Carter Ivanov. When rival mob boss Maksim Ovechkin kidnaps her, Vladimir is
willing to pay the ransom with his own blood.
But Maksim’s plans go deeper than that.
Vladimir’s blood may not be enough.
Maksim wants Carter for himself.

Carter has a secret—she’s pregnant with
Vladimir’s heir.

If Maksim finds out, the consequences will be
disastrous. But Carter isn’t willing to give up on her husband, even if her
loyalty to Vladimir puts her life on the line.

Some risks are worth taking, however, and Carter
has a plan.

Unfortunately, Maksim is one step ahead of her.

Carter is no mafia princess who needs saving.
She’s a force to be reckoned with. But she’ll need every ounce of her strength
to defeat Maksim and his Bratva, and
keep her family alive.

“I’ll give you three days to
grieve your loss, then I expect you to settle into your new life—and your
new bed.” Maksim leaned in
to kiss me, but I turned my cheek. “Carter.” His tone was authoritative and
demanding, but I refused to let him touch me.

“I’m married.”

“By the end of the night, you’ll be a widow. Don’t get too
comfortable with your spoiled American attitude. I won’t tolerate it.”
Satisfied with the terror on my face, he motioned to the guards to open the
cell door. “You belong to me now, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the
chase. Stay feisty, Carter. Submissives are a bore.”
